筑语书 (Book of Construction)
Award-Winning Puzzle Game DEMO
Co-designed and developed a puzzle game demo with a unique interactive "pop-up book" mechanic to visualize the rich history of traditional Chinese architecture.
Design Concept
Book of Construction (筑语书) was conceived as a narrative-driven puzzle game that serves as a love letter to ancient Chinese architectural philosophy (such as mortise-and-tenon joints, DouGong brackets, and spatial harmony).
The core mechanic revolves around a literal "pop-up book" UI paradigm. Players interact with pages that physically fold and unfold in 3D space, solving puzzles that mimic the construction of historical buildings.
My Contributions
- Game Design: Co-designed the core puzzle loops, tying them directly to the physical mechanics of traditional timber structures. Engineered the "pop-up book" visual metaphor as both the UI and the physical game environment.
- Interactive Development (Unity3D / C#): Programmed the folding/unfolding logic of the 3D book pages, ensuring smooth mathematical transitions and physically satisfying interactions.
- Visuals & Animation: Implemented shaders and particle effects to give the "paper" elements a stylized, handcrafted aesthetic. Scheduled dynamic camera transitions to focus the player's attention during pivotal narrative and puzzle-solving moments.
Reception
Developed as part of the highly selective Kingsoft SEED Camp (2023). The project was highly praised by industry mentors from Kingsoft Seasun Games for its cultural integration and innovative UX design, ultimately winning the Best Creative Game DEMO Award among competing teams.
